Ranveer Singh: Don't mind being tagged a FLIRT

Ranveer Singh has the reputation of a Casanova, since he's being romantically linked with almost every co-star he has worked with -- Anushka Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha and Deepika Padukone.

Ranveer is unfazed by this and is eagerly awaiting the release of his film Lootera, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

In a brief chat with Sonil Dedhia, Ranveer talks about his film, how he copes with the romantic link-ups and his new look.

The trailer of Lootera is looking great. It is very different from what you have done so far. Why did you choose this film?

I did the film because of Vikramaditya Motwane. I had seen Udaan and was completely blown by it. I met him backstage at the Filmfare awards, as Udaan and Band Baaja Baaraat released in the same year.

I told him I loved his film and want to work with him. To my surprise, he said that he had something for me.

And he did. He's a special director. In the years to come, he will be recognised as one of the best directors.

'Sonakshi and I share a great chemistry'

How much of a say did you have in the way you looked in the film?

I have got a lot of compliments for my look but I didn't have any say in it. Vikram was very clear about my character and look in the film.

He wanted someone who was charming and who looked like a good guy. The look is an amalgamation of James Dean and Dev Anand. I went with it.

How was your experience of working with Sonakshi Sinha?

I am happy that Vikram selected Sonakshi. She fit the role perfectly. I can't think of any other actress who could have pulled off this character.

Although Sonakshi is a modern girl, her look and mannerisms in the film will make you believe that she is from that era. She is a spontaneous actor. I share a great chemistry with her.

'I love twirling my moustache'

There were rumours that Sonakshi and you were going around together.

I know there were rumours of me seeing her even before we started shooting for the film.

We did a live performance and one magazine cover and all these rumours started. There is no truth in it. We share a friendly relationship and it was a pleasure to work with her.

You are linked with all your co-stars, and are often called a Casanova, a playboy. Does that bother you?

I don't take these things seriously. I am generous with my compliments. I tend to see beauty in everyone. I don't hold back in expressing my feelings.

I think that's why people have tagged me as a flirt. I don't have a problem being tagged as a flirt but I don't think it is right to tag someone.

Your moustache is a rage among your female fans.

Everyone is complimenting me on my moustache. I'm very attached to it. I love twirling it (laughs). How I wish I could keep it, but being an actor I have to change my looks according to the film.

This is my Ram Leela look thanks to my fans that they have liked it.

'I don't believe in competition'

Your career has got off to a good start and earned you many fans. Are you worried that you might not live up to their expectations?

I made a strong start and I knew that was important. I knew I would not get a second chance as I am not from the industry.

I think a lot of good work is coming my way because of the potential that people saw in me in my first film.

I don't think I have scratched the surface of my own potential. I still have a long way to go.

I want to continue doing good work. Gone are the days when actors could just survive on persona. I think versatility and acting prowess contribute to the longevity of one's acting career in the modern climate of Indian cinema.

The young breed of actors has taken the industry by storm. Ranbir Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkumar Yadav are all making a big mark. Do you look at them as competition?

I don't believe in competition.

People may compare me, but I don't compete or compare myself.

I believe in competing with myself. I work very hard for my characters and in the films that I am part of.

Everyone is doing their own job, and everyone is great.
