Amid intensified price-war in the FMCG sector, consumer goods behemoth Procter & Gamble, India announced on Tuesday that it was signing Bollywood actress Preity Zinta as brand ambassador for 'Head & Shoulder' shampoo, a $1 billion brand.
Signing of Preity Zinta would boost the image and sales of the product, P&G country marketing manager Rahul Malhotra told a news conference in New Delhi.
Out of the Rs 1,100 crore (Rs 11 billion) Indian shampoo market, which is growing at about seven per cent, anti-dandruff shampoo is valued at Rs 266 crore (Rs 2.66 billion) with a 15 per cent growth rate.
Launched in 1997, Head & Shoulder hold 46 per cent marketshare in the country, he claimed.
Before endorsing the P&G brand, Zinta had featured in Cadbury and Kinetic promos.
With a turnover of over Rs 1,100 crore, P&G India sells products like 'Tide', 'Ariel', 'Pantene' and 'Vicks'.
