Gujarat to organise global investor meet

In a bid to spruce up the state's image after the riots and attract investments, the Gujarat government would organise a nine-day global investor summit beginning September 25.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Reliance Industries would play an active role in the 'Vibrant Gujarat-2003: Global investor summit', to be organised during the Navratri festival.

After the riots, the government has been trying hard to revamp its image across the country by attending almost all of the exhibitions and conferences organised by various business outfits in different parts of the country.

The government has created a website to promote the summit, designed to be an investor meet as well as a tourism event, and is said to contemplate hiring advertising agencies to sell the concept to domestic as well as global investors.

The mega event would cost the cash-strapped state Rs 25 crore. The government has decided to set up five state-level and eight local committees "to encourage tourist activities and project the correct image of Gujarat abroad".

"A series of business-related activities have been organised simultaneously with the Navratri celebrations. This will involve events including conventions, exhibitions, seminars and guided tours and other activities aimed at spreading information-based awareness about the numerous investment opportunities in the state," said a government spokesperson.

The government has identified nine cities for organising the celebrations and summits simultaneously.
