Ardhapadma naukasana (Half lotus boat pose)

November 4, 2008

Sit up straight with both legs out in front. Bend your right leg at the knee. Place the back of your right foot on top of your left thigh. Inhale. Exhale and reach forward to grasp your left ankle. Inhale and raise your left foot off the ground, balancing in the pose so your body is borne on the hips entirely. Stay up, with your left foot as high as possible, breathing normally, for as long as is comfortable. Release. Repeat for the other leg.

Benefits: Both the bent leg and the straightened one are worked out in different ways. The tendons and all the major muscle groups get a powerful workout. It also works on the mind by developing focus.
