Situated close to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Cancer Institute is the Guindy National Park, a dwelling for spotted deer, civet cat, jackal, monkeys and birds.

Near the main entrance is the Snake Park, which has a collection of several venomous and non -- venomous reptiles.

Want to give the snakes a miss? Then head to the national park or children's park. Both the national park and the snake park have separate entrance fee.

Timings: 9 am to 6 pm daily.

Government Museum

The Government Museum in Chennai is a must see.

It would take several hours to see the 46 galleries that include sections on archaeology, zoology, botany, geology and numismatics.

It also houses a children's museum, a national art gallery and a contemporary art gallery.

Timings: 9.30 am to 5 pm (closed on Fridays).
