The crowded Marina Beach of white sand is inviting and stretches for miles and miles. You will find a lot of shops around it. Boards warning against bathing in the sea fall on deaf ears as tourists go for a dip.
A guide shows the spot where an aquarium was once located. It was washed away by the giant waves of the tsunami which struck the coast in December 2004.
MGR Square & Anna Square
A stroll at MGR Square (memorial of MGR) and Anna Square (memorial of C.N Annadurai) adjacent to Marina Beach and opposite Madras University, was a good way to idle away time. Both the memorial garden parks were well-maintained.
Kapaleeswarar Temple
The next halt was at Mylapore's Kapaleeswarar temple, testimony of a 1250 A.D Dravidian temple sculpture and architecture.
Located a kilometre away are the Burma Bazaar and China Bazaar, where duplicate foreign goods are sold.
