Spellbound in God's Own Country

Next morning, after breakfast, we headed back to Kumarakom. We were booked for a one night stay at a picturesque resort. The houseboat dropped us right in front of the resort, which was interlaced with waterways and the cottages were built 8 feet above the ground.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

After a sumptuous buffet lunch we went to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, where thousands of migratory birds fly in every year.

The bird sanctuary is walking distance from the resort. We, however, hired a small canoe to explore the narrow canals on our way to the sanctuary. We spotted the kingfisher, darter, herons, pelicans and storks in their natural habitat. It was a truly enchanting experience to see such rare birds in close proximity.
