Ardha Chandrasana (Standing variation)

December 10, 2007
Stand up straight. Place right foot in front of the left foot, about two feet away. Both feet must point straight. Inhale. Bend right leg at knee. Exhale. Place left hand on floor. Inhale, lifting left leg off the floor. Simultaneously straighten right leg and raising right hand up in air, as shown.

Look at a spot on the floor to facilitate balance. Advanced practitioners may look at raised hand. Hold for as long as is comfortable, breathing normally. Release and rest. Repeat for other side.

Avoid: If having lower backache or have never done any balancing practice.

Benefits: A powerful pose that tones the entire body. Like all balancing poses, it aids weight loss by working out the subtle muscle mass. It balances both sides of our brain, harmonising our inner selves.
