Asitha Fernando is back in the attack and bowls a peach first ball as the ball comes into Padikkal from around the wicket. The ball hits Padikkal high on the pad even as the bowler appeals. No says the umpire, SL don't review and rightly so as ball tracking shows it was going above the stumps. The batter takes a single.

Match resumes after a rain delay of nearly an hour and 20 minutes.

India have put on 101 for 1 at lunch on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Galle on Saturday.

India were off to a watchful start, and Jaiswal was looking good when he was run-out against the run-of-play just before drinks after the first hour's play.

Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 45) then came out and played confidently. He teamed up with KL Rahul and put on a 50-run stand. Rahul (32 off 37) on his part, has looked very circumspect. 

India will look to continue this momentum post lunch.

Dhananjaya continues and after two dots, Padikkal chips it back towards the bowler but it falls short of him.

Prabath continues and he comes around the wicket to Rahul who plays a dot.

Rahul then plays the ball to mid-on, the bowler brings Jaiswal down as he attempts to field the ball, Rahul calls for the single and is near the non-striker's end, Jaiswal struggles to get up in time. The fielder throws the ball to the keeper who takes off the bails. Rahul taps his bat in and the mix-up leads to Jaiswal walking out run-out for 32 off 37. India lose wicket at stroke of first hout's play.

He is bowling fullish deliveries and Rahul is happy to defend.

Rahul then sweeps hard and beats the fielder at short leg who has been hit on the helmet. Rahul gets a single. The physio is out for the concussion protocol for the fielder Madushka, who walks out and is replaced by a sub.

Debutant Keshara Nuwantha is the first bowling change and the off spinner starts around the wicket to Jaiswal. A dot later, Jaiswal gets a single off the leg side delivery to mid-on.

The bowler then gets some drift on the full and wide ball and Rahul reaches for the ball and the ball rolls the ball to cover and he gets a single.

A dot later, Jaiswal and Rahul get a single each off the next two balls as 4 runs come off it.

 

Lahiru Kumara continues and he starts with a fuller ball and Jaiswal creams it down the ground with a straight bat for a four to long on.

Jaiswal then pushes the ball off his front foot, the edge falls short of the fielder at gully.

On the pads next and Rahul then clips the ball off his pads for a four to long leg as 9 runs come off it.

In their 600th Test match, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul open the batting for India in the opening Test against Sri Lanka.

After two dots, Asitha Fernando bowls it a bit straight and Jaiswal flicks it off his pads for a four towards mid-wicket.

India captain Shubman Gill has won the toss and elected to bat in the 1st Test in Galle on Saturday. 

India will play the same XI that played in the warm-up, so no place for Sarfaraz Khan in the game today.
