Skoda Auto India Ltd is to roll out a series of new models of passenger cars under its Octavia brand in the next one year targeting a total sale of 8500 units in 2003 as against 4500 units in 2002, the marketing head of the company said on Wednesday.
"To begin with we expect to roll out 'Octavia Laurin & Klement' by May-June this year" Bipin Datar, head, marketing and sales, Skoda Auto India told reporters in Chennai.
He said the company expected to sell at 500 to 700 units of this diesel car in the first six months .The car is likely to priced at around around Rs 1.4 million.
Datar said that this would be followed by the launch of the high end 'Octavia Superb', expected to be in the price range of Rs 2.2 million to Rs 2.5 million.
On the cards was also 'Octavia Fabia' belonging to the B++ segment and likely to be priced around Rs 800,000 he said adding that the launch schedule of both 'Superb' and 'Fabia' are yet to be fixed.
According to Datar, as in the case of 'Octavia Ambiente' and 'Octavia elegance', the two models already on the roads, the new models on the cards would also be imported as semi knocked down and assembled in India.
The company would be switching over to import of semi knocked down within a year adding that the assembling facility of the company in Aurangabad would be expanded and upgraded for handling CKDs at a cost of over $56 million.
He said the company would also be embarking on localisation of the cars in phases. A high level delegation headed by the the the company's parent organisation in Europe would be visting India by April first week for talks with 25 selected Indian suppliers of automobile parts.
Datar said that the company would be entering pre-owned car business under the brand name 'Skoda Signature' by May-June next to coincide with the launch of 'Octavia L&K'. The idea was to deal with second hand Octavias to begin with, he said adding that there would be many Octavia owners switching over to L&K.
