Sensex zooms 90 points to 6,620

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 21 points at 6,551 and moved in positive zone right through the session on Thursday.

After touching a high of 6,632 towards the close, the Sensex finally finished with a gain of 90 points (1.38%) at 6,620.

The Nifty gained 27 points to 2,079.

While 29 index scrips advanced with a volume of 1.39 crore shares totalling Rs 711 crore, one declined with a volume of four lakh shares for over Rs 6 crore.

Heavyweights led the rally on Thursday. Infosys was up nearly 2% (Rs 37) at Rs 2,103. ONGC was also up nearly 2% (Rs 14) at Rs 833. Reliance was up more than a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 541. SBI gained Rs 7 to Rs 656. ITC was up Rs 4 at Rs 1,329, and HLL was up a rupee at Rs 165.

Cement scrips finished with gains. ACC advanced nearly 3% (Rs 10) to Rs 363. Gujarat Ambuja and Grasim were up more than a per cent each at Rs 457 and Rs 1,346, respectively.

Bajaj Auto was up 2.2% (Rs 23) at Rs 1,059. Maruti also gained over 2% (Rs 10) at Rs 460. Tata Motors added 1.5% (Rs 7) at Rs 493.

HDFC Bank advanced 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 572. Reliance Energy gained over 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 581. Tisco was also up 3% (Rs 12) at Rs 400. HDFC was up 2% (Rs 17) at Rs 788.

Zee was the lone loser among the index scrips - down a rupee at Rs 152.
