In yet another instance of evasion of levy, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has asked private operators Tata Teleservices and Reliance Infocomm to pay up the charges for positioning their fixed wireless phones as mobile services.
Tata Teleservices have positioned their new phone Walky, as 'freedom of mobility at landline rates' while Reliance Infocomm call their services as 'unlimited cordless'.
"Since Interconnect Usage Charge applicable for limited mobile services are different from fixed line wireless services, there appears to be an attempt by these operators to evade the IUC charges, including Access Deficit Charge payable to BSNL for limited mobile services, by providing the same in the guise of fixed services," a BSNL notice said.
In fact, BSNL has sought the details of traffic from all the long distance operators and Access Providers for the calculation of ADC levy payable by the Tatas and Reliance Infocomm.
BSNL has called upon TTSL to immediately pay the entire amount of IUC, including ADC, as per the Interconnect
Agreement for all its calls of limited mobile service through Walky scheme on its trunk groups meant for fixed line traffic from November 14 to January 13.
In a letter to Reliance Infocomm, the PSU said Reliance was using fixed line numbering scheme for WLL-M services.
Fixed wireless services were being provided by Reliance using LG CDMA instruments Model LSI-110 but this can be used as WLL-M throughout the local call area called SDCA, BSNL said in the notice and demanded the access charges as in the case of Tata Teleservices.
BSNL has asked Reliance to immediately pay up the entire amount of IUC, including ADC, for all its calls of limited mobiles through unlimited cordless scheme on its trunk groups meant for fixed line traffic from November 14 to January 13.
