The bold and beautiful of the sports world came out in their best attire at the ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) awards on Thursday in Los Angeles, California.

The awards recognise and celebrates the achievements of the best athletes across all disciplines.

Among the many famous faces spotted on the red carpet was Russian tennis sensation Maria Sharapova.

Dressed in a blue, frilly gown, the world No 1 looked fresh as a daisy. The intense, kohl-eyes and chunky jewellery completed the stunning look.

Another tennis beauty that turned heads at the event was Daniela Hantuchova.

The Slovakian mesmeriser came in a simple, yet pretty, white gown. She kept a toned-down look with no accessories, except for a small, gold clutch.

Danica Patrick can make a few hearts race.

And this NASCAR driver did just that with a printed, off-shouldered dress.

The front cut added a touch. She did go on stage to give out an award, but the lady herself could have been awarded for her style.

It was a night to honour sports stars, and NBA player Jeremy Lin came dressed for the occasion.

Looking dapper in a grey suit and check bow tie, the New York Knicks' player took home the 'Best Breakthrough Athlete' award.
