Dipa Karmakar, associations welcome PM Modi's Olympics Task Force

India's gymnastics heroine Dipa Karmakar has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of setting up a Task Force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympic Games, and expressed hope that it would yield positive results and the country would get many medals in the upcoming Summer Games.

"I want to thank sir. I hope we get many medals in the coming Olympics. Results will surely be really good," Karmakar said.

The 23-year-old, hailing from Agartala, missed the bronze medal at the recently concluded Rio Olympics by 0.150 points as American gymnast Simone Biles won her third gold medal of the prestigious quadrennial event.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) also welcomed the decision to set up a Task Force.

Under chief national coach P Gopichand's guidance, India clinched two medals in Olympics -- Saina Nehwal bagged the bronze at London Games and PV Sindhu won the silver at Rio de
Janeiro.

Prime Minister Modi, on Friday, announced setting up a Task Force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympic Games of 2020, 2024 and 2028.

The task force will prepare the overall strategy for sports facilities, training, selection procedure and other related matters.

The team will comprise of members who are in-house experts as well as those from outside.
