![[Are you millionaire material?]](15lead.gif)
Sylvia D'Souza

"Back in February, I took your personality test and shared it with a male friend of mine who I had absolutely no
romantic interest in. I was in love with someone else, or so I thought.
Well, he took the test and when I looked at our comparisons, we ranked 84%
friendship, 88% work, and 76% on the love meter. The little comment was
"Wow! When's the wedding?" Well, the wedding was on Sept 29, 2001!"
Sounds amazing, doesn't it? Valerie, California, took this test on Emode little knowing that she was on her way to discovering a life partner.
Online assessment tests have become a common feature on the Net. So much so, that dozens of sites are dedicated to nothing but unraveling your inner you. Do these tests really have any substance or are they just another hook to attract the gullible? My guess is as good as yours. But what cannot be denied is the fact that they're very popular.
Why? That's easy enough to guess. The tests can be fun, even addictive,
whatever you think of the results. I decided to take a shot at some of the
tests to see what I could find.
At first, I was rather baffled by the description of some of the tests
appearing on the site, but not really put off. The tests have been listed
under four broad categories: Love, personality, health, career and pop
culture.
Before you start taking the tests, you have to sign up. The process is
simple and the advantages, many. One of them being that you get access to a
personalised account, which automatically stores the results of all of the
tests you take on the site. Also, you can now invite your friends to take an
Emode test, see their results and compare it with your own!
I chose to begin with the "What's your love story?" test. The assessment wasn't half so bad. "...Most people who migrate towards the Second Chances love story either want to revise a past decision, confront someone they couldn't at the time, or revert to a specific point in time. Do you ever wish you could return to a different period in your life?" Well, I do. If only they could go one step further and tell me how…
The next test that caught my eye was "Are you a Perfectionist?" I like to think I am,
but wondered whether the test result would say the same thing. One of the
test questions was "When sending a card, I always write a draft before I
write the message in the actual card." I didn't need to blink before marking the option "true". Strange that it had been included in the first place, I wouldn't have thought there were blokes such as me. The result luckily pronounced me a perfectionist.
"What's your emotional age?" sounded like fun.
Though the result was anything but. "You probably keep your feelings very
guarded. While this guardedness means that you show a composed face to the
world, it can also mean you're viewed as a bit distant." I hope not. At
least, I never thought I was.
It was difficult to decide which one to go for next. "What's your movie mood tonight?" would have been just the thing if I had any plans to go for a movie tonight. Perhaps, I'll take it on the day I do.
"What zodiac sign should you be?" Now, this was a
new one. I am a Capricorn, by the way, and dare anyone say anything to the
contrary. My curiosity though, refused to take a backseat. I simply had to
take this test. If you're thinking that by some strange luck the result was
"Capricorn", you're wrong. My real astrological sign, it said, is supposed
to be Scorpio. Chew on that. I for one haven't digested it yet.
Other tests that seemed worth a shot were: "The Ultimate Personality Test", "What's Your True Color?", "Are you Millionaire material?", "What breed of dog are you?"...
These tests, apart from being fun, do offer a different perspective to
oneself. I mean, the result may not be true, but it makes you wonder for a
moment. You begin to question whether that is the way you are or is
something missing. I enjoyed these tests, learnt something from them… now,
you can find out whether you do too!
