In India, cyber laws have been framed to protect an individual's copyright. For more pertaining to the Indian subcontinent, visit tm4india and Nasscom's page on the Indian Copyright Act.
If you're a regular surfer, you've probably noticed that copying and pasting is easily done. This is, however, a violation of the author's copyright. These guidelines should prevent you from breaching copyright laws while using information found online:
- If you want to link to a particular site, you may not need permission. However, it is better to inform the Web master first, especially if you would like him to include a link to your site as well.
- If you want to reproduce material (images or content) ask for permission, preferably in writing, either from the owner or Web master of the site.
- Seek permission even when reproducing material for non-commercial use.
- Most sites with original content have a copyright clause. If you have a site, you can find out more about copyright compliance guidelines here.
As the Net is a relatively new medium, all copyright issues that apply to printed material may not apply. Some areas are still a matter of debate. For an overview of general copyright issues, visit this page or look here for international resources on copyrights.
