Videos this week: Modi super win, India's shame in capital and more

Last updated on: December 22, 2012 12:59 IST

Fresh from the hat-trick in Assembly polls, which pitchforked him in the BJP's prime ministerial candidates' race, chief minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said "Gujarat is a role model for the elections.

The entire election was fought here on the plank of development. Gujarat has endorsed the plank of development and has voted accordingly. "This is not my strength. This is BJP's strength. This is the Team BJP, this is Team Gujarat, which is serving you and I am just a small part of this team," he said.

"If you wish then I will definitely visit Delhi on Dec 27 for a day," Modi said as people shouted slogans hailing Modi as BJP's next PM candidate. Thanking people profusely, Modi said that it is a victory for everyone, who wanted prosperity and development.

When Narendra Modi apologised to six crore Gujaratis

Amidst loud cheer of 'PM PM' from the crowd, Gujarat cheif minister Narendra Modi yesterday said, said if he had committed any 'mistake', he seeks forgiveness from the people. "If there has been a mistake somewhere. If I have erred somewhere, I seek apology from you, the six crore Gujaratis," Modi, who has always been under attack following the 2002 post-Godhara violence, made no mention of it in his 45-minute speech. "You have given me power. Now you also give me your blessings so that I do not commit any mistake, no one is hurt and there is no mistake by me even unknowingly. When people, who are in fact God give their blessings, there is no possibility of a mistake," the Gujarat chief minister said. Analysts said Modi choosing to speak in Hindi when he has stuck to Gujrati during his entire election campaign may be signalling his national ambitions. Taking potshots at his detractors, Modi said he does not need a certificate from anyone after "people have given me the biggest medal".

Delhi gangrape case: Nation erupts in protest

Nationwide protests continue over the shocking gangrape of a young 23-year-old medical student who was assaulted with an iron rod, stripped and thrown off a moving bus by a group of men in the national capital on Sunday night. The incident happened despite reports that the bus crossed five police pickets.

And according to the main accused, he assaulted the girl because she resisted his attempt to rape her and bit him on his hand.

India is unwilling to let this case be forgotten and the issue be put on the backburner again.

Shoaib Malik-Sania match set on Nach Baliye 5

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik's offscreen chemistry has won a whole lot of fans for the sporting couple. What remains to be seen now is whether the same chemistry will be translated onscreen as they start their preparations for Nach Baliye 5, the celebrity dance show.

The couple landed in Mumbai on Monday and immediately began practicing for the show where they are taking part as a guest jodi. And though they aren't competing for the title, they will be seen putting in some heavy effort to shake a leg and impress audiences for a few episodes at least.

And since Sania by her own admission has two left feet, the pretty tennis star said that her hubby Shoaib will more than make up for her. "(I) Hope we have done a decent job and don't look silly. Shoaib is a good dancer and he loves dancing, but I am very shy!" said Sania who also went on to admit that only time she practiced dancing was when the couple tied the knot in 2010

Kamal Haasan: Rajnikanth is my competitor

While most of the time we come across Bollywood stars shying away or refraining to speak about their equations or rivalry with their contemporaries, southern superstar Kamal Haasan does quite the opposite.

Speaking to the sources, Kamal said that he and South demi God Rajnikanth are indeed stiff competitors but this competition of theirs is a healthy one. Kamal stated, ''He's very good. We treat each other as very stiff competitors. Fortunately, we belong to the same institute called Mr. A. Bbalachandra. So, we are both friends and competitors.''

Further talking about his equation with legendary Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan said, ''I'm concerned when he does something dangerous. Whether he is in good or bad health, I always want to know about him. When he was admitted in the hospital we all were worried and I even met him. He came back and thanked me...But yes we are competitors...in fact huge competitors.''
