Elephants go on a rampage in Mysore, kill 1

Two elephants went on a rampage in Mysore on Wednesday, killing a man and triggering panic among the residents of the city.

According to eye witnesses, the elephants first attacked a cow at Bamboo Bazar area. One of the elephants then attacked a security guard and killed him.

An alert was sounded in the city and all residents were advised to remain at home. All shops in the area downed their shutters.

The situation was brought under control after forest department officials and authorities of Mysore Zoo were called in.

The forest department officials had to fire over five tranquiliser shots before the elephants could be brought under control.

The authorities are not sure how the tuskers managed to gain entry into the city. The authorities are currently investigating how the mayhem started.

Some reports claims that the elephants had gained entry into the city early on Wednesday. It is surprising that nobody seemed to have noticed the elephants before they went on the rampage.
