Dom's Take: Who cares for Opposition parties?

With the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha sine die on Wednesday, September 23, eight days before it is scheduled to end, September 22 ended up as one of the most productive days in its history.

In just three-and-a-half hours, the Upper House passed seven key bills.

Only members from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, its ally Janata Dal-United and those of parties like the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Biju Janata Dal, the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress and the Telugu Desam Party, which have been extending support to the Modi government on various issues, participated in the debates on the bills n Tuesday.

The Opposition had boycotted proceedings in protest against the suspension of eight MPs for the remainder of the monsoon session for unruly behaviour in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday, September 20.
