Another SARS case in Pune

April 25, 2003 23:49 IST

One more person in Pune has tested positive for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, taking the total number of cases in the city to four, an official said on Friday.

The victim, Joseph Daniel Pawar, is an uncle of Stanley D'Silva, who had tested positive for SARS on April 21, health officer Dr Anil Rawethkar said.

The patient did not exhibit any symptoms of SARS like cough and respiratory problems, but a report of a test conducted on him by the National Institute of Virology, Pune, had indicated the presence of the virus that caused the disease, he said.

Rawethkar said after getting the report a meeting was held in which it was decided to shift him to the Naidu Hospital, where the other members of his family were.
