Accused in Taiwanese tourist's murder nabbed

Kamla Bora in Jaipur | December 05, 2002 02:45 IST

In a major breakthrough, the Rajasthan police on Wednesday arrested Gopal Sharma, accused of murdering Taiwanese tourist Li Ching Yi in Udaipur.

Li Ching Yi (22) was found murdered on Tuesday in a hotel room where she had checked in on Sunday evening with Sharma, who was found missing after the murder.

Coordinating with their Madhya Pradesh counterparts, the Rajasthan police managed to catch up with Sharma at his home in Khajuraho. He would be taken to Udaipur for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Delhi-based Taiwanese Economic and Cultural Centre has been informed about the murder and a team from the centre would be taking custody of the victim's body and her belongings from Udaipur.
