ate Winslet topped her Emmy win for Midred Pierce with a Golden Globe trophy for the mini series.

Although this wasn't the British actress's first time at the Globes, she continued her tradition of babbling during her acceptance speech, thanking the show's makers profusely.

The petite blonde's convincing turn as erstwhile sex symbol Marylin Monroe in My Week With Marylin won her many accolades and the first award of the year.

She beat strong contenders -- Kate Winslet (Carnage) and Charlize Theron (Young Adult).

Actress Octavia Spencer won for her turn as a maid in the Civil Rights era movie The Help.

Spencer quoted Dr Martin Luther King Jr in her acceptance: 'All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance.'

Claire Danes, Best Actress In A Television Series - Drama

Claire Danes won her first Golden Globe when she was 15 for My So-called Life and forgot to thank her parents.

She got the opportunity to do it right with a nod for her role in Homeland.

Laura Dern, Best Actress In A Television Series - Comedy Or Musical

Laura Dern had to fight it out with 30 Rock's Tina Fey and New Girl's Zooey Deschanel to claim the prize for her show Enlightened.

She won ahead of Kelly MacDonald from Boardwalk Empire, Maggie Smith of Downton Abbey, Sofia Vergara of Modern Family and Evan Rachel Wood of Mildred Pierce.
