It's been one helluva rollercoster ride for everybody associated with the Harry Potter franchise -- the people who created it, brought it on screen and the legions of fans that have waited with bated breath for each of the releases, book and film.

One of the best things about the Harry Potter series is the fine detailing that's been laboured in the narrative. For instance, despite the massive cast, almost all characters are so nicely etched out -- they have their own quirks, individual personalities and even back stories that give us an insight into the people they are.

Harry Potter

He's the boy who lived! He's the one around whom the whole story revolves and he's a legend who's acquired a family in his friends and a home in Hogwarts.

Though he's hailed as the only one who can destroy Voldemort, Harry has certain human attributes that make him endearing. You feel like holding his hand when he first steps in Diagon Alley, you want to hug him when he misses his parents and you squeal with joy over his victories.

Draco is that school bully we've all come across at some point. Of course, he's mostly all talk but he does wield immense authority among his peers.

The voice of reason and a guiding force in the series, Dumbledore is the father figure who's loved and respected by everybody.

Benevolent half-giant Hagrid is probably one of the more loved characters. He's good friends with Harry and his friends, and comes across as very sensitive and gentle despite that gigantic appearance.

Remus Lupin was James Potter and Sirius Black's best friend in their younger days.

Later, he taught Defence Against The Dark Arts at Hogwarts until Severus Snape revealled that he was a werewolf. He was then forced to leave the school but remained by Harry's side till the end to help him overcome Voldemort.

Bellatrix Lestrange is the most fierce Death Eater in the history of the magic world and the most devout follower of Lord Voldemort. She kills people without a hint of remorse and is capable of going to any length to serve her master.
