PIX: Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan's grand engagement

The engagement of Ram Charan Tej and Upasna Kamineni took place on Thursday night at Temple Trees, at the Kamineni Farm House.

It was a spectacular affair, where the who's who of Hyderabad -- from the present Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, politicians, film stars and bureaucrats -- were present.

A large crowd was present to grace the occasion, which brought together two prominent families of Hyderabad -- The Kaminenis and Konidelas.

Ram Charan Tej is the son of superstar Telugu Chiranjeevi and Surekha.

His fiancee is the daughter of Anil and Shobhana Kamineni, and granddaughter of Dr PC Reddy (the founder of Apollo hospitals), and K Umapathi Rao.

There was a heavy security cordon and people were given swipe cards with the invitation to facilitate entry. Some television channels beamed the programme live from 9 pm onwards.

Initially, Upasna was dressed in green. Later, she changed into a lehnga. She wore a chunky neckpiece, given by Chiranjeevi and Surekha.

Ram Charan wore a cream sherwani gifted by the Kaminenis.

The ring ceremony took place after 11 pm.

It is said that exotic flowers were flown from Thailand for the decorations. The food was supposed to have been catered by Mazhar Ghouse from Delhi.  A variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies to suit different palates were made.

Some of the prominent guests included Deputy CM Damodara Raja Narasimha, Speaker Nadendla Manohar, Union Minister D Purandareswari, and state ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Vatti Vasantha Kumar, Kanna Laxmi Narayana and Dharmana Prasada Rao.

 

Other politicians like Daanam Nagender, Ponnala Laxmaiah, Raghu Veera Reddy, Anam Rama Narayana Reddy, Jayasudha, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Kannababu, Dr T Subbirami Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao, Madhu Yashki Goud, K Keshav Rao, Lagadapati Rajagopal and C C Reddy were also invited.

Chiranjeevi's family -- brothers Naga Babu and Pawan Kalyan and his brother-in-law Allu Aravind and his wife -- were present.

The Telugu film fraternity was there to shower its blessings -- from Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Rama Naidu, Murali Mohan, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, SS Rajamouli, Keeravani (composer) to the young brigade like Allu Arjun (who is Ram Charan's cousin) NTR (Jr), Rana Daggubati, Naga Chaitanya, Shriya and Tamannaah to name a few.

Vibha and Abhimanyu Lal, world renowned Kathak exponents with their disciples, gave a spectacular performance. Vibha holds a world record for the maximum number of spins (103, in one minute).
