Two veterans of Malayalam cinema -- Mohanlal and Shobhana -- who starred in one of the most successful films in Malayalam, Manichitrathazhu as Dr Sunny and Ganga, have releases this weekend.

Director Priyadarshan and superstar Mohanlal are ready with Geethanjali.

Taking them on is singer-turned-actor-turned-director Vineeth Sreenivasan, with Thira, starring Shobhana.

The two films hit the screens today, November 14.

Geethanjali

Director: Priyadarshan

Cast: Mohanlal, Keerthy Suresh

In Geethanjali, Mohanlal plays Dr Sunny Joseph, the hugely popular psychiatrist from the blockbuster of yesteryears, Manichithrathazhu.

It’s not a sequel to the earlier film. Certain characters have been taken from the old film and presented in a new story.

Priyadarshan has not been having a great time of late, with failures in Hindi.

He hopes to change that with his close friend Mohanlal. The two have made several successful films together.

Suresh Gopi, who played a major role in Manichithrathazhu, is doing a cameo.

Keerthy Suresh, daughter of producer Suresh Kumar and Menaka, is playing the female lead. Nishan, Innocent, Siddique and Nassar are also in the cast.

Geethanjali is produced by G P Vijayakumar under the banner of Seven Arts International. Thiru is the cinematographer and the music has been composed by Vidyasagar.

Cast:
Shobhana, Dhyan Sreenivasan

After a pretty ordinary start with Malarvady Arts Club, Vineeth Sreenivasan announced his presence as a genuine filmmaker with Thattathin Maraythu last year.

Now he is ready with Thira, which has been written by Rajesh Mantodi.

Shobhana, who has been seen mainly on the dance stage of late, plays the lead.

Vineeth’s younger brother Dhyan Sreenivasan is being launched as the male lead.

Thira is produced by Manoj Menon under the banner of Reels Magic.

The film has cinematography by Jomon T John and music by Shaan Rahman.
