The Golden Globe Awards are out!

 

And sweeping the awards given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in the run-up to the Oscars are The Social Network and Glee.

 

In the picture: The female cast members of Glee pose after the series won the award for best television comedy series at the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills.

 

The TV series also won top prizes in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer) category.

Beating competition from the likes of The King's Speech, Inception, Black Swan and The Fighter is the Facebook film The Social Network.

 

It took home four Golden Globe Awards including best drama, best director award for David Fincher, best screenplay for writer Aaron Sorkin and best musical score, written by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

 

Adapted from Ben Mezrich's 2009 non-fiction book The Accidental Billionaires, the film adaptation starring Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song, Armie Hammer, Max Minghella, Rashida Jones, Joseph Mazzello and Rooney Mara, is about the founding of social networking website Facebook and its resulting lawsuits.

British actor Colin Firth and actress Natalie Portman took home a Golden Globe award each in the Best Actor and Best Actress (drama) category.

 

Firth won for his role of a stammering King George VI in The King's Speech while Portman beat fellow nominees Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams to take home the award for her role in Black Swan.

Another big winner was the comedy movie The Kids Are All Right.

 

The movie about two lesbian parents whose children search for their sperm donor father fetched its star Annette Bening, who plays one of the mothers in the film, an award for best actress in a film comedy.

 

In the same category (male), Paul Giamatti took home the award for his role as a caustic man the comedy film Barney's Version.

Meanwhile, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo both picked an award each for the boxing drama The Fighter.

 

Bale won the supporting actor award for portraying a drug-addicted fighter while Melissa won her supporting actress award for playing the mother of Bale's character.
