Kriti Sanon: I am sweet and diplomatic in real life

Kriti Sanon made a noticeable debut in Telugu film 1 Nenokkadine and followed it up with an imprresive Bollywood debut with Heropanti.

Now she stars in another Telugu film, Dohchay, where she will be paired opposite Naga Chaitanya.

The young actress speaks to Radhika Rajamani/Rediff.com, about her new film and how she is dabbling her career between Hindi and Telugu films.

What attracted you to Dohchay?

It is always the script and the character I have to play that draws me to a film.

This was an interesting and entertaining script. It is about a con, a genre not tried out much.

Meera (her character) is different. She is a medical student but not interested in studies.

Though there is a feminine side to her, she is tomboyish, blunt, bratty and dominating. She climbs the wall, bunks classes. There is a lot of spunk in her.

Are you like that in real life?

No. I am sweet and diplomatic in real life.

There is a slight tomboyish side to me. But I was studious and I did not bunk classes!

Was it fun playing the character?

Yes, it was fun. Also talking the way she talks.

It has been quite a while since your first film 1 Nenokkadine.

There was no interesting script. Moreover, I was shooting for my Hindi film Heropanti.

It’s better to focus on one film rather than take up two or three films at the same time.

Also, I felt I needed to do something better than before.

Are you comfortable with the Telugu language now?

When I did my first film, I did not understand or speak Telugu.

I have a good memory so I don’t take too much time to learn the lines.

Now I understand Telugu though I cannot speak it.

Are you comfortable working in both Hindi and Telugu film industries?

I am an actor. I am comfortable with the Hindi language. Industry wise, both are the same.

Technicians from the South work in the Hindi industry too.

For my first film, I heard Telugu on the sets as the cinematographer was speaking it. The difference is only in the language.

What’s your co-star Chaitanya like?

He is sweet and chilled out. It did not take time for me to gel with him.

We are in the same age group though he has done more films than I have done.

Like with most youngsters of today, it did not take much to get us talking. From the look test itself, the comfort level and chemistry was visible.

Chaitanya is spontaneous as an actor and I could react immediately.

Also, the director Sudheer would not allow more than two-three takes. Chaitanya and I used to chat and crack jokes. There was a positive atmosphere on the sets.

How was it working with Sudheer Varma?

Suddheer Varma shoots really fast. I am not used to that pace of shooting.

He is easy to work with. He knows what he wants. He is confident about his script and vision.

At the same time, he welcomes suggestions, gives space to the actor to try what he/she wants to do.

What about the producers?

Prasad and Bapi are warm people and used the best, whether in fights, or songs etc to create a good film.

Will you continue to act in Telugu and Hindi films?

I started simultaneously in both. Both the industries welcomed me.

As long as the scripts excite me as an actor, I hope to strike a balance between the two.
