States with longest National Highways; Uttar Pradesh is No.1

India’s National Highways form just 2 per cent of the country’s road network but carry a huge burden of about 40 per cent of the total road traffic.

Highways are the lifelines of a state, which connect district headquarters and important towns within the state and also National Highways of the neighbouring states.

India, with the world’s second largest road network, has National Highways which cover a distance of 79,243 kms.

While State Highways stretch to a distance of 131,899 kms, major district roads cover a distance of 4,67,763 kms.

Uttar Pradesh
