Despite the recent terror attacks on Mumbai, British tour operators are upbeat about India being a safe tourist destination.

A meeting of UK Tour Operators convened in London decided to promote India as a safe destination in the coming months.

"The brainstorming session including exchange of some wonderful ideas to promote India in the coming months so that the message of India being a safe destination reaches all," said Jagdish Chander, director India Tourism.

Chander said the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has toned down the advisory for visitors going to Mumbai and it would make promoting India easy.

The tour operators on Thursday expressed their solidarity with India by promising to promote the country on a regular basis.

Chander advised tour operators to promote the lesser known destinations in India which are more or less a virgin market for the country.

The meeting was attended by leading tour operators and hoteliers including representatives from Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels.

A familiarisation tour of prominent tour operators and media persons to India has been decided so that they can analyse the security situation in the South Asian nation.

It was also discussed to increase the advertising budget for the coming three months so that the 'Incredible India' story is known to people in the UK and Irish market.

The India tourism office is also working on theme talks on India at prominent locations like Royal Geographic Society, which attracts large gathering.

The India tourism office is also scheduled to host a series of road shows at Harrogate, Chester, Kent and Cambridge during the months of February and March 2009.
