My first kiss: 'I was fearing her reaction'

Your first relationship may not have lasted, but everyone usually has fond memories of the very first time they kissed someone. Illustrations: Uttam Ghosh

We invited readers to share stories of the first time they were kissed -- here is the next set of responses!

First up we have this tale from Sriram K:

It was a Friday evening and most of us were in relaxation mode due to the upcoming weekend. I had planned to visit Chennai with my friend -- I'd known her for the six months. We were very good friends by now and just loved to be in each other's company. I was in love with her but was too scared to express it, fearing her reaction.

We were waiting for the bus and musing over things that had happened during the day. It was around 10 pm when we boarded the bus and our seat was right behind the driver. The evening was moody, as there was some gloomy, accompanied by a cool breeze. Once inside, we soon settled down in our seats and as the bus moved she laid her head gently on my shoulders. We were talking and laughing about various things. Whenever I tried to turn toward her, I could feel the heat of her breath and my lips were touching her forehead every now and then.

It was at that time that she leaned towards me and kissed me straight on my lips. I was mesmerised by her sudden action and was totally swept off my feet. My heart started beating so fast and I felt as if I was in heaven. Though a bit nervous, I too started responding. We kept our lips locked for two minutes before she pulled away. I too turned my face away. I could not control the heat around us and when I turned towards her, I was jolted a second time with a perfect kiss tightly sealed on my lips. We went on kissing for quite some time and by the time we realised that it was time to catch up on some sleep, the sun had started to rise.

We were laughing naughtily at each other as we alighted from the bus and presently we are good lovers who still love to be in each other's arms.

Even though our first kiss occured under such circumstances, we feel that it ended up as being the most PERFECT one, just as we found ourselves to be the perfect fit (match) for each other.

'God knows if the autorickshaw driver saw it via the rear view mirror!'

And here is reader Karan's account of his special moment:

My first girlfriend and I were in a long-distance relationship -- she was in Pune, while I was in Chennai. The week after I formally proposed to her over the phone, we were both excited to meet in person. So I took the flight and reached Pune to spend the weekend with her. She was waiting in the arrivals section of the airport and it was so tense and exciting to meet the person I had been so close over the phone.

We roamed the whole city, from one park to another and one mall after another in an autorickshaw which she called a 'rick'. Finally, Sunday evening came and I had to catch the flight back to Chennai. We took a rick to Lohegaon Airport in Pune and it was quite a drive -- almost 35 to 40 kms from Aundh.

From the time we sat inside the rick, she had been speaking about various things, none of which reached my brain -- I was only thinking about the first kiss. I was very, very hesitant to kiss her and I was not sure how she would react. All the time she was talking to me, I was simply mustering up the courage to ask her for a kiss. She was talking continuously and when her hair brushed my face, I couldn't stop myself from asking her for the kiss. Finally I had accumulated enough courage and asked her, "Shall I kiss you?"

To my surprise, she didn't say anything but blink her eyes romatically and gently nodded her head -- I can never forget that. We both kissed inside the rick and God knows if the autorickshaw driver saw it via the rear view mirror! In fact, she later said that had I not asked her for a kiss, she would've kissed anyway me at the airport.

After this incident, we scaled step after step in our romance, but it didn't culminate in our wedding. Now I am happily married to a girl who's an angel in terms of looks, personality and thoughts.
