Welcome to the weekly fashion round-up, where we bring you the latest on supermodels, style, designers and everything in-between!

Which celebrity has stripped down for a high-end Italian label? How much are women spending on their hair?
Here's the lowdown on the latest fashion news!

Naomi Campbell lobbying for more black models

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has urged the fashion industry to use more black models on the catwalk.

She was reduced to tears when she collected the Special Recognition Award at the British Fashion Awards in London, in honour of her 25-year modelling career.

"We're all aware that we need to introduce more women (of colour). But what I've seen recently is that I've seen it go backwards slightly. We need to raise awareness again and need to start using women of colour more," the Daily Star quoted her as telling London's Evening Standard.

"When I look at the shows this season, there weren't as many as a year-and-a-half ago. We've got to keep speaking out, so as boring as it may be, if you hear me saying it over and over again I have to stand up for my fellow comrades (sic).

"It's not for myself, but the younger girls who come up to me and say, 'We didn't get used this season, we didn't do this, someone used 81 models and didn't use one of us'. In that respect if they come up and talk to me, and I'm able to speak on their behalf, then I will," she said.

Talking of hair, here's an interesting survey that suggests that women spend the equivalent of a year's average salary on their hair over a lifetime!

According to the poll conducted in the UK, the average female spends 26,500 pounds on her tresses over a lifetime and a year of her life styling it.

The survey of 3,000 people by OnePoll for celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke also found 40 per cent admitting that styling their hair made them late to the office at least twice a year.

A quarter of the women surveyed also admitted to that they would rather spend money on their hair than food.

One in three women who took part in the survey admitted it took her an average of 40 minutes to style her hair before a night out.

The survey also found that most women own at least three different styling tools, with one in ten owning more than five.

"Our survey shows how well and truly obsessed the nation really is with hair. And so they should be. It's so important to keep your hair looking in tip-top condition," the Daily Mail quoted Clarke as saying.

The luxury fashion line, Christian Dior, has designed special vegan shoes, free of leather, for actress Natalie Portman.
Portman, who is also the new face of Christian Dior, could now walk without any hassle knowing that her designer shoes are leather free.

The 29-year-old vegan actress was reportedly hesitant about signing up to be the spokesperson for the leather-loving luxury fashion line.

And then the French fashion house designed special shoes for the actress that were free of animal products.

"It was definitely a war inside my head for a long time and finally, I was like, we can actually do something very positive with this, especially given the kind of company Dior is, which is truly elegant," the New York Daily quoted the actress as telling Woman's Wear Daily.

"They remade all of my shoes so I can wear Dior shoes without taking lives," she added.

Sadly for other luxury loving vegans, the shoes are for their spokeswoman only.

Tanning makes women sexier: Study

Tanning, which has been associated with skin cancer in previous studies, may have an advantage after all. It makes women look sexier, says a new study.

Researchers at Emory University found that doctoring photos of women to make them appear tanner increased how attractive they were rated on a popular attractiveness-rating site HotorNot.com, reports ABC News.

They used the website to gauge whether 'hotness' scores would change when the same woman was shown with her natural complexion and then with a tan.

Using Photoshop, 45 photos of women aged 21 to 35 were doctored to look tan. The original photos and the doctored versions were posted to the site at different times.

The researchers found that the darker version was twice as likely to be rated as more attractive.

Meanwhile, campaigns by health organisations like the American Academy of Dermatology to warn the public about the skin cancer risks of tanning with have had limited success.

"People think that tanned individuals are more attractive, healthier looking, and it's incredibly difficult to get someone not to do something that perceive as providing them with a positive perception. It was the same thing with smoking.
Especially younger people have a hard time seeing themselves as getting older and having to deal with these risks," said dermatologist Dr. Audrey Kunin.

While sun exposure does help the body produce necessary Vitamin D, supplements and natural sources of the vitamin in one's diet, such as cheese and eggs, do the job just as well, she said.

So there is not really a medical basis for tanner people looking healthier, she added.

Numerous studies have linked overexposure to UV light with skin cancer, especially through the use of tanning beds, but controlling Americans' desire to bronze has proved difficult, said dermatologists.

"All of my younger melanoma patients, girls in their early twenties, have been tanning bed users," said Kunin.

People spending 20 minutes in a tanning bed is the same as an entire day on the beach with no sun block, but until they have skin cancer, it's hard to convince them about the risk, she added.
