Red is the colour of passion and a fashion staple for all seasons, ages and shapes.

While it goes a long way in making you stand out in a sea of pastels and (sometimes) blinding colour-blocks, red (and its gazillian striking variations) is one of the few colours that complements almost all skin colours.

Want to make a statement at the next party you're attending? Take a cue from these stylish, fun and sexy celebrity style files!

Dressing up your curves

Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara, apart from her killer comic timing, is famous for her Latin curves and an astute sense of what works for her rather difficult body type.

She clearly had a winner on her hands in this Vera Wang fishtail number that she wore to the Emmy Awards this year in September.

Katy Perry's fiesty performance at a previous VH1 event was buoyed by a Jessica Rabbit-inspired sequinned outfit.

Who says saris have to be over-the-top, garish outfits that you don't pull out of your wardrobe often?

Kareena Kapoor is a picture of perfection in this fiery red yet understated sequinned sari as she attends a star-studded Bollywood wedding and fittingly accessories with sindoor.

The French connection

French actress par excellence and an all-round stunner, Marion Cotillard doesn't need to put much effort to upstage everybody else at a party and she knows it.

Play it cool like this classic beauty in with an asymmetrical hemline and a belt to cinch that tiny waist for a formal do.

Wearing the pants

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's two-toned pants evoke mixed reactions initially but is quite a fashion win, if you ask us.

The plunging neckline and fitted sleeves make a powerful yet glamorous statement.

Red royalty

Only Deepika Padukone can wear a fiery red, backless number and still look as elegant as royalty.

Go for a high-neck-plunging-back combination with a bow detail at the waist and some high heels to match.

Bystanders will never know what hit them.

Under her fashion umbrella

Fashion icon Rihanna has little regard for fashion norms.

So what do you do when you're invited to an infamously formal do, like a GQ Men of the Year awards night?

You pull out your little red dress that leaves little to the imagination and make heads turn.
