GRE rescheduled: Prometric answers your questions

Prometric India asks students not to panic while it makes arrangements for alternate testing.

Last week, we told you that the Graduate Record Examination has been cancelled for over 500 students at six centres in the country as part of a regular monitoring process.

The centres operated by Everonn Systems in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Trivandrum have been temporarily shut while Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Allahabad are currently available to students.

While Prometric along with Educational Testing Service, the official body that administers the test globally, assured students and parents that it will arrange for alternate testing, the announcement has also added to needless confusion among students who are either yet to hear from Prometric or are unable to talk to a student representative to reschedule the exam.

Considering the situation at hand, Prometric India decided to answer some of the frequently asked questions over e-mail.

We hope the responses bring some relief to the affected students.

I was supposed to appear for a test in January. Why is my test being rescheduled/cancelled?

As part of an ongoing monitoring of our test centre network, six test centres operated by Everonn Systems India Ltd., and located in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore Mumbai and Trivandrum have been closed at Prometric's direction for an administrative review.

As a result, Prometric has been contacting all candidates originally scheduled to test in January at affected test centres, to arrange alternative testing. Rest assured your test has not been cancelled and a Candidate Care representative will be contacting you to offer you a reschedule very shortly.

Which test centres are currently unavailable to me and why?

The six test centres operated by Everonn Systems India Ltd. located in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore Mumbai and Trivandrum have been closed at Prometric's direction for an administrative review.

If I want to give a test in January, which test centres can I consider?

Candidates who wish to schedule their GRE test in January may visit www.ets.org/gre and select from test centres in Gurgaon, Hyderabad or Allahabad.

I am scheduled to appear for a test in February/March in one of these six affected centres. Would you suggest that I reschedule my test now to avoid any inconvenience later?

Prometric is looking for alternative venues within these affected cities to minimise inconvenience to candidates. We will make these new venues available on our registration and scheduling system as soon as they become available.

Meanwhile, we ask for your patience and a Candidate Care representative will contact you should there be a need for you to do anything. Rest assured we are doing our best to minimise any disruption to your test appointment.

If my test is cancelled, will I get a refund?

Please rest assured your test has not been cancelled. If you are affected by the closure of these six test centres, Prometric will reschedule your test appointment at no charge.

Will I be charged extra to reschedule my test at a later date?

If you are affected by the closure of these six test centres, Prometric will reschedule your test appointment at no charge.

I haven't got an e-mail/message from Prometric yet. How do I know whether my test is rescheduled or not?

For now, Prometric is only contacting candidates who were originally scheduled to test at these six test centres in January.

If you are one of these candidates and have not heard from Prometric by January 21, please contact our Regional Contact Centre at 0124-414-7700.

Otherwise, please be patient and a Candidate Care representative will contact you should there be a need for you to do anything.

I received a message saying that my test has been cancelled. However, I have no clarity as to what is the new date of the exam. Should I wait for Prometric to reschedule my test or do it on my own?

If you are affected by the closure of these six test centres, Prometric will contact you to reschedule your test as soon as the new venues become available.

I am being offered to give the test in a different city, which is inconvenient to me. Can you tell me when will the six centres reopen?

Prometric is looking for alternative venues within the affected cities to minimise any inconvenience to candidates, however, this may require candidates originally scheduled to test in January to be rescheduled to a later date when the new venues are fully set up. Candidates who prefer to test in January may be offered an appointment in a different city.

Is there any possibility of Prometric setting up new test centres in these six cities? If yes, how can I avail of them? Will I be informed of the same?

Prometric is looking for alternative venues within these affected cities to minimise inconvenience to candidates. We will make these new venues available on our registration and scheduling system as soon as they become available.

I am not able to get through the phone line to reschedule my test. What is the best possible way I can get it done?

If you are an affected candidate, please rest assured that we are doing our very best to reschedule your GRE appointment and a Candidate Care representative will contact you as soon as we have the new location and date information available.

In the meantime, we have taken steps to ensure your records remain intact and have reserved a temporary appointment for you on our system. This will be changed to the actual location and date as soon as we have that information. We apologise for any inconvenience.
