A decade has passed by since the proposal was first made for reserving 1/3rd seats for women in the Parliament.

Although the Bill aims to encourage women to participate in the activities of governance in the country, there are many who fear that the bill will be misused.

At a recent event hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry in Mumbai, which was attended by leading women personalities from various professions, actor Nandita Das, director Kiran Rao and lyricist Javed Akhtar were among those who voted in favour of the bill.

Actor-turned director Nandita Das says it is important to think of reservation for women as an affirmative action towards empowering the underprivileged women in our country.
