Big B to promote Champions League T20

Last updated on: August 6, 2010 20:15 IST

Amitabh Bachchan has been signed on as brand ambassador for the second edition of the Champions League Twenty20, to be held in South Africa from September 10.

ESPN STAR Sports, the official broadcaster and commercial partner of the event, made the official announcement to this regard at a glittering function in a suburban hotel in Mumbai on Friday.

Talking about the association, Big B said, "I am delighted to be associated with Airtel Champions League Twenty20. It is an interesting format, an international T20 tournament, where only champion teams compete for the top prize.

"I am a huge cricket fan and always want to see Indian teams win laurels on the international stage. I am confident that the three IPL teams from India participating in this tournament will put up a good show and get us the coveted trophy," he added.

Asked which is his favourite among the three Indian teams, Bachchan was quick to reply.

"Since I live in Mumbai, I support the Mumbai Indians," he said, before adding that he would be happy if any of the three Indian teams won.

"I wish the very best to the three captains -- MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings), Sachin Tendulkar (Mumbai Indians) and Anil Kumble (Royal Challengers Bangalore) -- for this event and hope that their teams do their best in this prestigious T20 event," said Bachchan.

The legend also talked about his chance encounter with Vinoo Mankad during the occasion.
