Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi has supported the stand taken by his party. He said on Twitter that he was opposed to the move.
Sitaram Yechuri, CPM leader and member of Rajya Sabha, said his party was opposed to Walmart's entry as it would kill the Indian retail market.
"Those who are currently employed in the retail market would loose their jobs. It would adversely the Indian retail market," Yechuri said in an informal conversation.
Both BJP and CPM have given adjournment notice in both houses of the parliament.
Rajiv Shukla, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, said it was not proper for the opposition parties to disrupt the proceedings of the two houses of the parliament.
