A capable squad, Paraguay is coached by Cesare Maldini, an Italian. On their day, they can be a revelation and surprise the mighty. They caused a sensation in the qualifiers by defeating Brazil.

Essentially, a defensive team, Paraguay has inducted fine strikers into the side. However, the bench strength is suspect and it may prove their undoing. They have the luck of the draw, being pitted against Spain, Slovenia and South Africa.

Goalkeepers:
Jose Luis Chilavert, Justo Villar, Ricardo Tavarelli
