Chinese doubles pair withdraws

The first result of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games is already in, even though play hasn't started.

Chinese doubles pair Zhang Jun and Zhang Wei are out of the Games following a training injury to Zhang Wei two days before the Chinese team were due to depart for Sydney.

China BA vice-president, Yang Shu'an, confirmed to the International Badminton Federation that Zhang Wei would not compete. Canadians Bryan Moody and Brent Olynyk will now get a walkover to the second round where they will meet seventh seeds, Jesper Larsen and Jens Eriksen of Denmark.
