Of Maitree Express' pantry & Customs officials

April 17, 2008
Each Indian head hung in shame as the Customs officials rummaged through the luggage of Bangladeshi guests even after they had been thoroughly x-rayed.

Why did they make octogenarian Enaitullah sit on a stool while the official pulled out Rs 150 from the old man's pocket? Can someone travelling to Bangladesh to fulfil his last wish be an offender?

Can't say. For, I don't have the Customs officials' 'x-ray vision'. After 45 long minutes, however, the officials gave Enaitullah clearance.

The frail old frame then slowly got off the stool to take refuge in the receptorium at Gede, mumbling something. Incidentally, Enaitullah is from India and he has no connection with Bangladesh except for the fact that he has seen the undivided face of Bengal.
