'A strong Pakistan is good for India'

October 16, 2007
I asked you about Pakistan?

We have an all-weather relation with Pakistan. A strong Pakistan is very beneficial for India.

Even militarily strong…

If Pakistan is militarily weak there will be war. I don't think only Chinese weapons are being used against India. Pakistan is using American weapons. We persuade Pakistan to have peaceful talks with India. We have a different policy now than in the Cold War era. At that time the US-Pakistan-China axis was there and India-Russia were close.

Now, Pakistan and India both are able to get weapons from America. You are getting weapons from Russia, Israel and US. Pakistan is also getting big aid from US. In my opinion, what is most dangerous is India becoming too strong and Pakistan too weak. Then there will be a war. A little balance is required.

China being a responsible stakeholder and a responsible country will not like Pakistan to use Chinese weapons against India. Why are you not talking about US giving weapons to Pakistan? The US gives the most sophisticated weapons to Pakistan. But why don't Indians doubt US policy towards Pakistan?

You are a neighbour. You can be a matter of worry.

If you don't want war with Pakistan and if you don't think of confrontation with China. I don't think there is any matter of worry. Even Mao has said that every Chinese has dreams of going to the Western paradise. That Western paradise is India. They know since childhood the story of money-king of the West. You should tell your readers and Indian friends that let us forget our hatred.

Even if we can't create Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai period but we can create a win-win situation.
