Issues like the Sachchar Committee report on Muslims' backwardness and the rise of China were debated with fervour in recent RSS meetings.
"On the occasion of Guruji's birth centenary, we have successfully organized more than 3,000 Hindu sammelans, more than 1,000 caste sammelans for Hindu unity, more than 2,000 group meetings of students," former RSS spokesman Ram Madhav told rediff.com
"It has given us access to the new generation of India," he added.
The RSS seems to have scored a political point over the BJP by proving that in the core Hindu constituency, RSS-subscribed Hindutva has the capacity to draw the crowds. The BJP can't claim that the RSS needs the BJP at the grassroots level.
The RSS' Sri Guruji Janam Shatabdi Samaroh Samiti was formed with more than 100 people, including former athlete P T Usha, former cricketer Javagal Srinath and shooter Jaspal Rana.
A 90-minute film was also made on Golwalkar, to clear some old controversies surrounding him.
Golwalkar was an enigma to many of his colleagues. When he went to Brahmakapalam, near Badrinath in the Uttaranchal Himalayas, to perform the last rites of his parents, he also performed his own last rites.
He said since he was unmarried, he didn't want to be a burden to anybody after his death.
