Parkinson's disease: Yoga to the rescue

April 11, 2007
It is tough to remain optimistic when your mind is disconnected from your brain, when your facial muscles refuse to express your emotions and your limbs are no longer under your command. That is the stark world of Parkinson's disease.

But yoga guru BKS Iyengar is trying to usher in hope to those affected by the disease. On occasion of World Parkinson's Disease Day, the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Society organised a session on 'Yoga and Parkinson's Disease' at the Bombay Hospital, Iyengar and his disciples demonstrated a set of yoga techniques and asanas exclusively modified to bring relief those affected by Parkinson's disease.
