These women run their countries

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo

Born in 1947, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the current president of the Philippines -- the country's second female president and daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal.

She managed to reach the top with the help of the 2001 revolution that toppled Joseph Estrada from power. Interestingly, she studied for two years at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. and was a classmate of former US President Bill Clinton. She returned to the Philippines to complete a Master's degree in Economics, followed by a Doctorate from the University of the Philippines.

In 2005, Forbes magazine named Arroyo the fourth most powerful woman in the world.
