Bharatiya Janata Party president L K Advani, on Thursday, welcomed BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan's suggestion of 'collective leadership' as key to solving problems facing the organisation. "It is a good thing. Team leadership is very much a requirement," Advani, who is on a municipal election tour to Ahmedabad, told reporters.

His comments appeared subdued, considering Mahajan's apparently critical remarks in a television interview on Wednesday, in which he also opposed Advani's idea to resolve the impasse with the Rashtriya Svayamsevak Sangh through a public debate.

Advani, however, downplayed rising dissidence within the BJP and instead attacked the Congress-led Union government for its record in office. "The Centre's report card is so poor that even the Supreme Court has to indict it thrice," Advani remarked.

The BJP chief said the recent events, including the Supreme Court verdict on the Bihar Assembly dissolution, might 'bring about a change in Central politics.'

"The Supreme Court verdict on Bihar is unprecedented," Advani said.
