Paro Biwi owned two small shops that she lost in the tusnami. She built another shop in the temporary camp she lived in, but it was demolished by forest officials.

'We allowed the government to build temporary houses here, not shops,' they told her.

As far as she is concerned, her first two shops were destroyed by nature, the third by an insensitive administration.

But she has not given up. She has built another small shop in the old market area. She has bought cloth on credit from her old suppliers in Port Blair. She is where she used to be before the tsunami.

Nature and the forest department destroyed her shops. Her spirit, however, remains intact.
