India and America meet in mid-air
Lt. Col. Pete Bastien, director of operations for the 961st US Airborne Air Control Squadron, discusses AWACS aircraft capabilities with Indian Air Force radar officers.
Airmen from the 961st AACS are part of about 250 US Airmen from Pacific Air Forces units for the exercise.
At the end of the exercise, American pilots who flew the F-16s admitted that Indians simply routed them in many manoeuvres.
Soon after the exercise, a US Air Force participant in Cope India wrote on his blog: "We try to replicate how these aircraft perform in the air, and I think we're good at doing that in our Air Force, but what we can't replicate is what's going on in their (Indians) minds. They've challenged our traditional way of thinking on how an adversary, from whichever country, would fight."
