May 26, 2004 18:20 IST

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav on Wednesday said he would study the Godhra investigation report to get into the truth of the incident in which 59 people were burnt to death in a Sabarmati Express coach.

The incident triggered widespread riots in Gujarat in 2002.

"When the incident took place we were in the opposition. We hardly know anything about it. We will study the facts to know the truth," he told Aaj Tak news channel.

Yadav said he had not seen the report, but would study it to face questions on the incident in Parliament and outside.

He refused to say if any review of the report was on the cards. "I will not comment until I am myself convinced. But there is right to information and people should know the facts."

Later, he denied reports that he had asked for a file on the Godhra incident. "They are false. I have no information. I did not direct the officials to bring the file to me."
