Prime Minister-designate Manmohan Singh met Congress President Sonia Gandhi today for discussions on his Cabinet that will include members of allied parties.

Earlier in the morning, Singh said he has asked the President for a day or two for constituting the Council of Ministers.

The new prime minister and his Cabinet is likely to be sworn in on Saturday, a day after the 13th death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Major allies like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Lok Jan Shakti Party have already decided to join the Congress-led coalition government.

Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee discussed Cabinet formation with Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar. The meeting at Pawar's house lasted about an hour following which Mukherjee drove to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath home to apprise her of the discussions.
