February 03, 2004 17:05 IST
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav on Tuesday met President A P J Abdul Kalam and demanded the recall of Bihar Governor Rama Jois for his remarks against the state government in his Republic Day address.
"I have told the President that the governor has failed to perform his constitutional duty. He is targeting Bihar keeping in mind the coming Lok Sabha polls," Yadav told reporters after the meeting.
Accusing the governor of singing the Sangh Parivar tune, the former Bihar chief minister said he urged the President to issue the recall order as soon as possible.
Earlier in the day, the matter figured in the Rajya Sabha with the opposition demanding a statement from the government.
