A temple visit that went horribly wrong

Eyewitness account - Ketan Koria

I am a native of Rajkot and came to Ahmedabad to visit my uncle. He told me that I must visit the Akshardham temple of the Swaminarayan sect.

We decided to visit the place on Tuesday evening. On entering the temple complex, I was thrilled to see the beauty of the place. But as I was approaching the main door of the temple, I heard a blast.

I could not understand what was happening, but saw people running helter skelter.

Suddenly, I saw three persons of medium height, about 5' 6" and wearing khaki masks, firing indiscriminately.

I saw a man in a red shirt firing towards me. I immediately ducked and saved myself. Then the gunman turned his gun in another direction and started firing indiscriminately.

I started looking for my uncle who had got separated from me in the chaos. I could not see him as everybody was running to save their lives.

To my horror, the gunman again pointed his gun at me and started firing. Luckily, he missed me, but hit two others behind me killing them on the spot.

I was too shocked to react or even understand what was happening.

But I could see the gunmen running in another direction while firing simultaneously.

I was scared and started running towards one of the gates of the temple complex.

As soon as I came out, I saw my uncle and immediately thanked god for getting us out of this incident alive.
